長毛兔以食草為主，適當搭配精料。兔的盲腸相當發(fā)達，長度約與兔體相等，對粗纖維的消化能力較強，僅次于牛、羊。產(chǎn)毛兔每日約需0.5公斤青飼料、100～150克配合飼料。長毛兔喜食的青飼料很多，如苜蓿、菜葉、各種樹葉、沙打旺、花生秧、紅薯秧及各種野菜等，冬季可喂曬制的青干草。

長毛兔每日飼喂3～4次，要定時定量飼喂，尤其夜間要保證有充足的草料和飲水。青飼料要洗凈瀝去余水，不喂帶泥土、雨水或噴灑過農(nóng)藥的青飼料。精料要現(xiàn)拌現(xiàn)喂，防止隔夜發(fā)酸。仔兔在16日齡時就可開食，30日齡時以補飼為主，40～45日齡可斷奶。青年母兔要加強運動，4月齡后公母兔應分籠飼養(yǎng)。
